+++ Raglan Farmstay
Two lovers were riding on bikes through Dublin when they got a call. The call brought them home to Raglan, NZ to set up Raglan Farmstay. Since October 2011, we pulled up carpets, painted floors, hung art work, put our books all over the place, and brought organic linen. Design of the website and marketing material followed, and with the business now up and running, can be handed back to the owner…
+++ KALi
A swimwear label founded by yours truly, from pencil drawings to market. Romantically speaking it grew from a hammock in Mexico (2008). In reality it was a million different experiences, feelings, ambitions and dreams that brought KALi to fruition.
+ Branding (www.kali.co.nz).
+ Sourcing and Production Co-ordination (Best materials in Australia, to the best printer in Australia, to the best CMT in Indonesia, to New Zealand for distribution and sale.
+ Working with the ridiculously talented woman responsible for the prints on my designs (www.jessleitmanis.com).
+Organisation and direction of a photoshoot into the early hours of a dark spring night with a team of dedicated individuals (www.rowenabaines.com, www.anamariafranco.co.nz).
+ Pre Press - Design and print of every piece of marketing material (Business Cards, Lookbook, POP, Event Flyers and Info, etc).
+ Event Management. Pear Shaped Invitational - creating an entirely new surf competition format to provide a platform for women surfers where getting innovative and having fun are part of the entry requirements. Surfers Who Art - An exhibition celebrating the creative surfers… sculptures, painters, musicians under one roof for an evening of good vibes.
+ and everything inbetween…
+++ KALi Surf School
The introduction of the KALi Surf School (Dec 2010) has been a complimentary addition to the KALi stable.
Being the first female specific surf school in New Zealand (whilst leaving open the opportunity to expand the surf school into female specific surf and well being retreats), the KALi logo had to evolve to incorporate new elements and appeal to several different markets.
Establishing a local based service gave the opportunity to work as locally as possible - a big part of the KALi ethos. Marketing material printed locally (www.raglanink.co.nz), my friend Phils creative skills utilised to screen print locally sourced tee’s with eco friendly ink (www.ascolour.co.nz), and a collaboration with NZ made wetsuit company (www.seventhwave.co.nz), all contributed into making this a NZ based service through and through. Pop up poppit!
+++ Rip Curl International
Whilst at Rip Curl (2006 - 2008) my main directive was the development of the entire female wetsuit range, in conjunction with graphic support for the Technical Department (wetsuits, bags, watches). The revamping of Classic, Core, and Ultimate women’s line, involved working with a very talented global team, utilising the wealth of knowledge and experience from different divisions to meet the needs of the major markets (Europe, USA, Australasia).
It was an epic experience that brought about many highlights… Being part of the Environmental Committee to implement company changes from the ground up. Researching and Product Testing in various locales, including California and France. Designing panels with mad wetsuit scientist “Sparrow”. Designing and introducing to market the first women’s wetsuit to be made with the best performance materials possible “designed by women, for women” - the G Bomb (summer vest version pictured).
+++ Photography
Always striving to capture the moments of beauty. Film often takes up more room than underwear when traveling. Like to experiment with an array of cameras and film… medium format, 35mm, SLR, Holga, Polaroid, Fish Eye or the beloved Leica… all feels good.
Taken before work when attending wetsuit meetings.
Out of the mist in the early morning… Capbreton, France.
Holga. Medium format B&W film. (February 2008)
+++ Ashley Knox
An acoustic man, he lends his hands and vocals to make a “soundtrack for the mellow soul searcher”.
Not one to break a good theme, I made a hand drawn font and fused it with some mellow soul searcher colours. Applied it to a simple fold out deal… No Plastic… Very nice. (March 2010)

+++ Whaingaroa Environment Centre / Community and Environment Day Poster
Since living back in my home town, I have joined the local environment center as a volunteer. There I might talk about seeds, or worms, local initiatives, or once in a while converse on any topic that the local 90 year old (or so) swiss woman may want to address… just because. Every so often, I’ll apply myself to some design work they need done. Just one way to lend a hand. Kind circles.
An A3 poster I hand drew, processed through Creative Suite. Type making up the iconic Raglan scenery, viewed from the Environment Day venue. (January 2010)
+++ Mikes Mowing
Mikes Mowing “Cuts Grass. Not Corners.”
When Mike needs business cards, and Mike is your Dad, there is a sunny day, and you want the man to cut the grass… you can get as creative as you want. If you want to don your favourite KALi bikini and use two rakes to set point size and leading, you can. Ha.
Combining my love of the outdoors and my love of type… hello summer. (November 2010)
